About RSS

Resources for your EO research, application or service

RSS architecture and environments have been design and made available by the Research/Service Support and Ground Segment Technology section of ESA' Earth Observation Ground Segment Department.

Its primary mission is providing support to the EO community to exploit EO data and to the researchers and service provider to ease the development of applications to generate value added information. The section also supports and promotes ground segment harmonisation activities through the identification and collection of ground segment technology needs.



RSS provides:

From Satellite data to value added information, RSS offers specific solutions answering to the EO community needs. The RSS environments are operated by the Research/Service Support and Ground Segment Technology Section, supported by an industrial team. RSS solutions includes:

• E-Collaboration Environments

Research, develop and make available environments for distributed collaboration, systematic or ad-hoc extraction of information, service chaining and provision

• Applications and Services

Support application development and service provision, also as result of cooperation among scientist, value adders and service providers

• Information Based Services

Support the development and provision of services based on the information extracted from the real time or archived EO data

• Test-beds and Reference Systems

Support the development and provision of test-beds, reference systems and data-sets

Listening to the needs and expectations of the EO users and all partners is part of the every day work of RSS, hence constant cooperation with the researchers and industries is mandatory.

This collaboration is promoted and sustained also from these web pages via the social network area "Join&share", that offers to the EO actors the opportunity to share ideas, projects and skills in the Earth science research and services, thus bringing together EO science, applications and services.

• A Blog dedicated to best practices in the use of the RSS tools and resources and constant update on the new technologies made available

• Help desk forums for the RSS environments, supporting the implementation and provision of data exploitation and information-based services (G-POD, SSE, TOOLBOX, KEO)
• Forum to find partners interested in the creation of more complex EO services (chaining together basic services created by different organisations)
